Notice that there are not stripes on the input shaft. There were three types of saginaw transmissions offered at the time of this car's production. Luckily we got the kind with the lowest transition from 3rd gear to 4th gear, which is critical in landspeed racing. This is because there is so much air resistance on the car at this shift, that it slows the car down between the shift, which bogs the engine down significantly. Therefore the less the transition is, the better.
